Gas Logs

Realistic. Minus the Work.

You have three options when it comes to choosing gas logs for an existing wood-burning fireplace.  Choose between a vent-free (ventless) gas log, vented gas log, or a direct vent gas insert.  Our first recommendation is that you seriously consider a direct vent gas insert, or a fireplace insert complete with a gas log burner.  These are easily-installed units which are more practical than their counterparts and do not present any of the problems associated with vent-free or vented gas logs.  To get more information about direct vent gas inserts, click here.

Highland Glow Vent Free Logs

If you choose to go with a log set, think about whether you want it more for decorative purposes or for heat. Vented gas logs are rated as a decorative appliance, designed to operate in a wood burning fireplace, with the damper fully opened.  Vent-free gas logs are rated as a heating appliance, designed to operate in a vent-free or wood burning fireplace, which does not vent to the outdoors. In addition, most vent-free gas logs use less gas than vented log sets and will provide more heat in the home, since none of the heat is vented to the outdoors. While vent-free gas logs are prone to a few issues, they come in a variety of sizes and styles to fit your home’s needs.  We offer  a full line of gas logs from Hargrove Premium Products, which has been handcrafting the most beautiful and realistic gas logs available for more than 30 years. We also offer the Empyre line of ventless gas logs–from White Mountain Hearth and American Hearth–all of which are complete with convenient control options.

Again, we ask that you talk with us first about the risks of using gas logs before choosing them for your home.  We are happy to assist you and want to help you make the best choice for your situation.  Give us a call today or come by the store for more information.
